What Portrait Photography Entails

I would bet this is the most common presence of photography in our homes today. We have different kinds of pictures hanging on our walls and we always have a story for them, be it wedding, graduation prom, birth day party and so on. Portrait photography will normally focus on the image of a person or a group.

It has still remained popular photography for more than two hundred years. As time goes technology has made it possible for even to capture images that occur faster than we can see. Apart from the way it captures moods and expressions on some ones face, it has remained a cheaper and faster way compared to portrait painting. One interesting thing to note though is that, experience is what matters in this photography unlike the artist talent in the case of painting.

Can you imagine in the past days photographers would move into the wilderness, across oceans and seas just to capture unique images. Those were the days when it would take an entire wagon for equipment and developing tools just to capture a photograph. Compared to today it may seem imaginable but at least you get the feel of where we are coming from.

A great and fine picture will depend on small details that we pay attention to. One such important detail is the light. Light intensity can be modified and given direction as we see fit. Several lights in the studio can be controlled. For instance main light gives primary focus on the portrait and its normally positioned 45degrees to the right or left of the subject. Fill lights can also be in opposition with main light at a distance. This all aims to give depth and separate the model from the background.
