Video Transcoding - The AVI Container

AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave, this is a very popular video container which has been spread all over the web by P2P and file sharing enthusiasts. AVI is a compression container originally invented by Microsoft and the developer who came up with this container is called to Avi Cohen. This video format can contain different video and audio tracks just like the DVD can however, when it comes to subtitles and format is actually short-handed, in order to address this problem many fixes and hacks have been developed but these are mostly the reason why some players will have playback compatibility issues.

When it comes to subtitles it is often recommended to use an exterior file which could be hardcoded into the video itself, this way video players won't have any problems when it comes to compatibility and handling AVI files. Back in the early 90s when the format was invented there were no playback devices which could handle this format, only computers are able to encode and read these files, almost a decade later specialized devices which are able to playback such format became available, these were basically modified CD players which were able to read the files and then project the video and audio tracks to a TV or monitor.

CD players which were able to playback the AVI container where later on modified and turned into DVD players which had the capability of reading conventional DVDs, MP3s, JPEG and AVI content. Multiformat DVD players became popular due to the fact that people were not only interested in playing DVDs on them, but he also wanted to playback their music in MP3 format or wave in addition to their online media.

This particular multimedia container has been heavily tweaked in order to allow the users to include more features in such container, the modifications were done thinking about other formats such as MKV or Matroska and MPEG-2 which is commonly known as the DVD format. DivX labs have been pioneers of the improvements done to the AVI container for the use of their special codec, DivX also came up with the DivX multimedia extension which is basically an enhanced form of the audio video interleave format, other codecs applied to it are Xvid and H.264, however this latest one has playback compatibility issues in certain standalone multimedia players.

Touch Screen DVD Players

Technology is such a wonderful thing. It has helped us live our lives faster and easier. It has created a lot of wonderful new products that entertain and help us in our daily needs. However, constantly changing technology can also be a little overwhelming; making even the easiest tasks, such as choosing a touch screen DVD player, hard and quite a bit confusing.

With many touch screen DVD players available in the market, it may be quite a challenge to choose which player suits your needs the most.

Here's a little guide for you to follow when buying a touch screen DVD player.

Is it complete?

There is nothing worse than paying good money for a touch screen DVD player that lacks other components. Check the model or manufacturing number of your touch screen DVD player to make sure that you are buying the right one and make sure that you are getting all the features you wanted.

Also, check with the store or with the website (do some research beforehand if you have to) if they are offering packages, such as additional speakers, amplifiers, etc. with your touch screen DVD player. These packages will help you enhance your movie watching experience.

Will you be able to connect your USB storage devices, memory cards and other digital storage formats to your touch screen DVD player?

Although, the primary use of your player is to play DVD's, it is best to check if your player has additional features such as memory card slots and USB ports. Most DVD players nowadays allow you to play formats other than the DVD. These additional functions are great when you want to view pictures, short videos, films and other digital formats from your computer or download them straight from your camera to your home entertainment system.

Check your touch screen DVD player for these options so that you can get your money's worth.

What digital formats does your player support?

If your touch screen DVD player allows you to connect external digital storage devices then it would be smart to check what kind of file formats it plays. Does it play .avi, .mp3 and .mpeg formats? Make sure that it supports all the formats that you want to view.

What region DVD's does this player accept?

Over the years, DVD's are becoming increasingly multi-regional but that doesn't necessarily mean that every touch screen DVD player will play every DVD you have. It is best to check which region of DVDs is played by your player. Make sure that this region is compatible with the region of your DVD's.

Many touch screen DVDs come with 4-channel high power speakers with sub outputs. Sets also include full function remote control and car mounting hardware. These days, you even get in-dash touch screen DVD players that come with a large number of helpful features. For instance, there are DVD players with Telephone Mute Trigger wires and Brake screen safety triggers.

7elephants.com offers large range of Car DVD Players at wholesale prices. We have exclusive deals on mono block, digital, 2 channel & 4 channel car amplifiers to choose from.

How Many Spaces Need a Home Theater?

Despite the fact that many people want a good home theater system, many avoid making the investment because they fear they will not have enough room. The good news is that compact systems are growing in quality and availability as space around the world becomes more and more limited. The population continues to grow, and as it does so, the spaces where they live continue to shrink in size. Because of the space crisis, many communities devote new housing projects exclusively to apartments, condos, and tiny houses on compact lots.

In small spaces, the average family faces limitation for things such as complex and large home theater systems. It is rare to include big projectors or TV stands anymore, as the products of choice typically include ceiling projectors and rear projector TV sets. One of the many ways to get around the space problem is to purchase wireless speakers and mount them on your ceiling or on your wall along with your LCD or plasma television.

A home theater can be a reality for anyone living in a small space, thanks to emerging technology such as box kits that take this factor into consideration. No matter how small our homes might be, the advances in technology allow us to enjoy advanced sound and picture quality from the privacy of their walls. Sporting events and public theaters are expensive, crowded, and frequently come with a bad view that make you miss important parts, but your home theater will never have any of those concerns.

For those that haven't yet made the investment that will undoubtedly double the enjoyment of their home video viewing, there are space-related options worth considering. A home theater can even be used in an apartment. Though it is a common belief that these systems will not operate correctly in small spaces, it is far more common that they will have performance problems in very large spaces. The people at the store you are shopping at will know what your best options for a small space are and will help you pick one accordingly. Since your home theater will include ceiling and wall mounted objects, you are actually going to be freeing up a lot of floor space.

By upgrading to a flat TV that does not have a bulky rear projector, you can save even more space. A good consumer knows that their best tools for investigating the market are to go looking for actual products that might fit your space. There is absolutely no reason you should prevent your fears about the size of your living quarters from owning a home theater.

The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen - You Never Thought a Pen Could Be This Cool

Have you ever had the following experience - you look back at notes that you've taken a week after you've written them, and you are completely baffled by what you see there? Even scarier, have you ever had that experience a few hours after you've taken them? I think everyone has!

Well, luckily, you never have to have that experience again! The new Livescribe Pulse Smartpen makes that sensation a thing of the past.

The Livescribe Smartpen is a computer, available in either one gigabyte or two gigabyte versions, contained inside a pen that is just a little bit smaller than a dry erase marker. It is activated by tapping certain functions on special paper that comes with the pen, then when you take notes, it digitally records everything that you are writing and the accompanying audio in the room.

You can tap the pen on any part of your notes later, and it will replay the audio that was going on at the exact moment you wrote that note. You can jump ahead, jump back, speed up, slow down - you are in complete control!

When you get back to your computer, simply set the pen in its docking station cradle and download the notes and audio, all perfectly synced, to your hard drive. At this point, you can search your notes for keywords - a very useful feature. Also, you can share your notes online with classmates or other interested parties, or archive them.

The Livescribe people have been heavily marketing this device to college students, which makes sense because of the note taking tie in, but I think it could also have a significant market value to business customers for taking and sharing incredibly accurate and interactive meeting minutes.

All in all, the Livescribe Smartpen is an ingenious device, the uses for which have not even begun to be explored.

What Do I Get From a Satellite TV System?

It's amazing to think that some of the very first and most primitive of satellites were launched in the late 1950's. Some 50 years later and we take it for granted that we receive television broadcasts transmitted via a range of satellites in orbit above the earth. Satellite TV is now available for almost everyone and is leading the way in High Definition broadcasts. High Definition or HD for short and the flat screen technology are two of the driving forces encouraging people to review and most likely change their TV and broadcast supplier.

In such a short time we have so many changes such that it is almost impossible to have the most up to date at all times. The first HD TVs were introduced in the late 90's but what we are now seeing the price of large screens dropping in price. If you wish to view a large screen in your home then you benefit substantially by being able to receive HD transmissions.

What is HDTV?

High-definition television is a digital television broadcasting system with higher resolution than traditional television systems known as standard-definition TV or SDTV. HDTV is digitally broadcast rather than analogue. To look in more depth gets very technical. The digital broadcast enables data to be transmitted much more efficiently because much less bandwidth is used. Sometime a TV set will be referred to as HD ready and this means that the television set itself is not capable of receiving an HD transmission. This isn't usually a problem because many [people will have a set top box which does receive the HD transmissions and then links to the television screen. Some HDTVs are a complete HD system and have an inbuilt receiver which maybe capable of receiving HD transmissions over the air, via satellite or cable but not all of these.

In addition to having HD programs on your HDTV (or HDTV ready) screen you will also be able to play some of your favourite games on the great new screen. A satellite TV installation linked the HDTV system will be a great addition to any family's viewing. If you're looking at a new satellite TV installation then you may also wish to consider a DVR or Digital Video Recorder. This is an upgrade to the entry level service or product and is a more sophisticated set top box with a disk drive included so that you can record programs directly to disk. Some systems will then include two receivers in the set top box so that one receiver can record a program for you whilst the other receiver displays your chosen life viewing.

Even if you have your older TV set there are still good reasons to have a satellite TV installation. A satellite installation will give you a better picture than a cable or broadcast picture because satellite programs are transmitted digitally by satellite and the only cable required is the one that connects you TV to your set top box and receiver dish. You'll almost always get a larger selection of available channels. Finally if you wish to enjoy foreign language channels then yet again the satellite installation probably offers the widest choice.

We have more information about satellite tv installation packages, sports package options, multi-room installations and more.. In addition to English language the following are available French, German, Greek, Israeli, Italian, Japan, Polish, Portuguese plus many others

Plasma TVs - Invention of Necessity

Would you believe that scientists created the plasma TV while trying to come up with a better computer monitor? Well, this is the truth. The LCD and plasma televisions are a product of the development of computers. In fact, we owe so many advances in technology directly and indirectly to the development of the computer. It shouldn't be a surprise that our viewing pleasure is directly improved by the insatiability and constant inventiveness of scientists who are trying to solve their own daily annoyances and questions.

Way back in 1964 the development began at the University of Illinois. Back then monitors for computers were actually just simple televisions. You have to remember that TVs at this time were actually cathode ray tubes. In order to correctly display, they had to refresh themselves all the time. That was a huge obstacle when trying to use the television as a computer monitor. It was fine for watching television, but the resolution was awful for computers. Within the first year, the very first plasma screen was working.

Today, plasma TVs have millions of cells that make up the color and screen's resolution. The first plasma monitor consisted of only one cell. However, it was still moving in the right direction. As Liquid Crystal Displays became the norm for small monitors, plasma technology was halted. A few years later, large flat screen televisions became very popular. At the time, only the biggest flat screens could be made economically using plasma technology. These days, LCD screens as well as plasma flat panel televisions are popular and they are available in various sizes.

Plasma TV has made a big difference in how people view TV and use their computers. HDTV has become a sought-after item, as indicated by the number of plasma television screens being sold in retail stores. The cost of a flat screen, which was once too high for the average consumer, has since lowered substantially. Now, lots of people have these incredible flat screen televisions, and they're hooked on their clear high definition television programs, especially sporting events.

The world owes the scientists working at the University of Illinois a huge debt of gratitude. Because of their need for a new computer monitor, the world was introduced to plasma TV. Without them the large, unwieldy projection sets of old will still be standard and a clear, beautiful picture wouldn't be a reality. These scientists created a remarkable viewing experience some 30 years ago, and now individuals have the opportunity to view superb quality programming at an affordable price. What do you think the next great advance in entertainment viewing will be?

Vic Metten a home theater installer knows the connectors and cables make the difference in picture clarity for Plasma TVs. He recommends the folks at Best Deal Cables for their innovative HDMI cable, certified for 1080p and also has a unique clip to keep it secured. They don't have huge advertising budget so their HDMI, DVI, and Component video cables are reasonably priced.

Eliminating that Terrible Hum From Your Home Theater Speakers

You've all heard it, that dreaded 60Hz hum through the speakers of a home theater or house audio system. Hopefully you heard it at a friend's house and not your own. It can drive you completely nuts. You may have even tried, unsuccessfully, to fix the little noise problem. That can make you even more crazy. What causes that horrendous noise through your speakers?

More often than not humming through your speakers is caused by a grounding problem. There are three main ground problems that cause problems in an audio / video system. These are ground loops, improper grounding and lack of a ground altogether. The other possible culprits that can cause noise are bad cables, a faulty piece of equipment or electrical noise from a lighting dimmer or electric motor. There are steps you can take to troubleshoot the noise and eliminate it from you theater.

The first step is find out where it is coming from. Disconnect your source and display equipment from your receiver or surround sound processor. If the noise stops, connect them back to the receiver or processor on at a time until the noise returns. When the hum comes back, you found where the noise is entering your system. Note that if you are connecting remote equipment, such as running the signal from your theater room DVD player to the TV in the bedroom, your chances to pick up noise increase dramatically. With such long runs, noise can be induced into the long cable runs from adjacent electrical wiring. It is also easy to create a ground loop, because the equipment is plugged into two different, widely separated outlets, on different electrical circuits.

If the noise is caused by a cable box, the noise is likely caused by the cable TV ground. To test this theory, disconnect the incoming cable TV feed to the rear of the cable box or TV while they are still connected to the rest of the system. If the noise is eliminated by disconnecting the TV cable, the problem is the cable TV ground. You can electrically decouple the cable TV feed from your system with a ground breaking transformer. These are available from many sources. Be advised that many newer, digital cable TV systems require any device in the signal chain to pass a full 1,000 Mhz. Some of the older ground break transformers will not do this. Be sure to check the specifications of whatever device you are purchasing to verify it will pass the digital cable TV signal.

If the noise is from your projector, TV, or monitor, it is most likely caused because the video display device is plugged into a different outlet than the other a/v equipment. It could be on a different circuit as well. These circuits may have two different ground potentials. That is, the resistance to ground is different on each circuit. A difference in resistance to ground from one ground point to another can cause the dreaded ground loop. If you get a ground loop, current flows between the two components. If the current flows through the components internal audio signal ground, you will get a hum.

You can use an isolation transformer, similar to the type used for cable TV ground problems, to eliminate the electrical connection from one component to the other. These transformers are inserted in line with the audio signal connection between the two components. If there is no audio connection between the components, the problem may be current flowing through the video portion. In this case, a video isolation transformer should be used to eliminate the ground loop.

Sometimes power conditioners will stop noise problems by placing equipment on different, electrically isolated outlets. This is done using isolation transformers. Sometimes this is ineffective however, due to the differences in internal construction of different power conditioning equipment. Some safety regulations, such as UL 1950, specify that an isolation transformer is only allowed to isolate the hot and neutral wires; the grounding wire must be passed straight through. If this is the case, the ground loop problem may still exist because many communication circuits are connected to the grounding conductor and not the neutral. In this case, the isolation transformer, or any power conditioner or UPS with an isolation transformer will have absolutely no affect on the grounding problem.

The noise may be generated externally, from a dimmer or refrigerator compressor for example, and coming in through the main power input on the audio video equipment. In this case, a high quality power conditioner may be effective in reducing or eliminating the noise problem. You may also find that one of the signal interconnecting cables in your system is faulty. This can also cause noise problems. Check for this by swapping the cables with one that you know to be good.

You can solve most noise problems in your home theater or multi room audio/video system by taking the systematic, step-by-step approach. Work your way up the signal chain, eliminating each piece of equipment as you go. If you have nothing connected to your speakers except the speaker wiring, and they still hum, the problem is noise induced into the speaker wiring from adjacent power cables. Other than that case, most problems are caused by ground problems, which you can find, and solve, if you take it one step at a time.

The China Coffee

Chinese tea is well known around the world. Chinese coffee is not. But that will soon change. China slowly has entered the growing of gourmet coffee and they have the perfect natural resources: high mountains, great soils, nice wet climate, plenty of cheap labor and the culture to dominate. They even made the Coffee agriculture report. This year's coffee report calls for major production improvement and output record levels for Chinese coffee producing regions. The Chinese output will so far exceed expected output that it will also cause the world's production to exceed expectant levels.

Still will the excess coffee the wholesale prices continue to increase? However as demand is not able to keep up with supply look for prices to plummet. Also the quality of the Chinese coffee is far less that its South American counterparts. Many consider Costa Rica, Brazil and Columbia to have the finest coffee in the world. The China coffee is not even close in terms of quantity or quality and much of the Chinese coffee is a robusta bean. The Latin America coffee countries only produce Arabica bean which is a far superior bean. The Chinese coffees are also lacking in the production of certified organic coffee. The Chinese coffee is very young and needs some time to mature. Also it is very small but as it grows and people are able to share techniques and resources watch out.China could become a major player like they are in the tea market and most of the other manufacturing. They definitely have the climate and mountains and other national resources. And the people. And the people with the resolve to get it done.

And the economy of scale to make it a success. Watch out Columbia. World coffee production in the current season will be greater than previously expected and will set a record, the Agriculture Department said today. In its weekly report on world agriculture, the FDA department put the global coffee crop at over 96 million bags, up 1.3 million from the previous forecast and over ten percent or approximately over 12 million bags above last year's crop.

Improved prospects in Africa, the leading coffee-growing countries was the main factor in the higher estimate, the report said. Kenya and Nigeria commented that short term agriculture programs were finally taking effect and helping with production. Other cited factors included improved water, water supply and consistent water along with improved farming techniques and farming co-ops. The farming co-ops allowed farmers to share resources and best practices which allowed much improvement in production levels.

China currently grows coffee in the Yunnin province - in the far southwest corner. Near Tibet you have some great mountain regions and a ton of rain. And shade grown would not be an issue. Chinese coffee - it even has a nice ring to it.

Accepting DVR Technology When VCR Technology Still Works

There is a dilemma with advances in technology. It is the cost of incorporating the new technology when earlier technology still seems to work. In the field of CCTV advances in digital recording and storage systems is forcing many to face the expense of replacing analog recording and storage. Where Video Cassette Recorders were once the rule, they are now being phased out by Digital Video Recorders as prices continue to fall and storage capacity continues to rise.

That is not to say that VCRs do not still have a place in the surveillance industry, just that there are fewer places that DVRs are not the better option. Because VCRs are so inexpensive today and so many people are comfortable with their use, they can still be a viable option for some end users. It's difficult to imagine though, large, complex CCTV installations that would today incorporate an analog-based VCR surveillance system with its complex system of tape storage and retrieval. However, in instances of a single camera and budget restraints, the VCR is still a viable option. Analog videotape is fragile, can wear very easily and deterioration occurs with each recording or with each generation of copying.

It is also slow to retrieve an event on tape even with time and date or alarm search modes. These are not issues with digital recording. Video Cassettes big advantage remains to be the prevalence of VHS machines in police stations and court rooms. The proliferation of different digital units makes it difficult for the authorities to support them all but as advances are made this issue will be addressed as well. The two most common reasons for choosing digital over video recorders are quality of the recordings and the ease of search and retrieval of events.

An industrial VCR can be set to record with small intervals between images to compress 24 hours of recording on a three-hour tape, as opposed to the continuous recording of a domestic unit. This however creates a strobe light effect when playing it back which may not be acceptable in some situations. Many end users are content with a 24-hour recording capability although some VCRs are feature-rich enough to provide 168 hour and 960 hour recordings. Customers that require recording over weekends and similarly extended periods value these options.

The greatest weakness of the VCR is poor tape management. A stock of high quality tapes must be stored and handled correctly as well as replaced daily. Such shortcomings are not the fault of the storage system itself but rather the operation. Over using a tape is in itself results in poor recordings which are not such an issue with digital recorders. Maintaining a VCR based system can be time consuming compared to that of a digital based system.

A DVR records images onto an internal hard disk, ensuring high quality, clean, undistorted reproduction. Ease of search and retrieval of an event as related to time and date or alarm. Some products allow search for motion in a camera while still recording.

DVRs are either PC based units running either Linux or Windows or Black Box units that use proprietary operating systems and have a conventional CCTV interface to the user.

As the hard disk capacity of DVR systems continues to rise, the initial high cost of a hard disk compared with a VCR tape is no longer a major issue to end user adoption of Digital Video Recorders. Users with very large storage requirements, such as banks and other financial institutions, can incorporate groups of hard drives to provide the ideal solution, capable of archiving months of easy-to-search footage or one month of higher rate recording.

The industry is obviously moving forward with digital recording and its many advantages over analog tape; i.e.: their ease of use, search functionality, network compatibility, picture quality, the security of the image and the opportunity to break free of the limit of recording a maximum of 25 frames per second. Digital recording is the ideal solution in diverse situations such as retail, banking commercial offices and industrial facilities. To date it is unsurpassed in providing evidential image quality required by police forces worldwide and the ease with which archived images may be retrieved has made DVR immediately popular with the security industry and end user. It is the obvious choice for any new prestigious installation, but also offers the perfect upgrade route for one using a VCR with or without a multiplexer. And now with Pre-Event? recording available, (the capture of lead-in views to an event), something unavailable on VCRs, there is yet one more reason to make the advance.

Partly due to the high processing power required to handle large volumes of CCTV images, the security industry is one of the last industrial sectors to latch onto PCs. High processing power has only recently become available on an affordable PC. However, since PCs are so common place many end users are having little difficulty in making the transition. Embedded software in DVR units is sufficiently sophisticated for an operator with limited PC knowledge to grasp it with ease. Simple operational controls and familiar looking drop down menus ease the learning curve as well.

A DVR really comes into its own when a rapid recall of archive image is required. Instead of investing hours retrieving an image capture, archived footage can be searched and an image retrieved in a matter of seconds. Other features unavailable on VCR are fast forward and reverse play, giving even further functionality.

The single most important advantage however, is network compatibility, which gives users the option of remote monitoring, control and access to archived images. Every communications network that supports the IP protocol is accommodated including Ethernet (LAN and WAN). Care must be taken however, to be certain that control of images accessible across a network are secured and protected from tampering. This is possible by using digital watermarking compression technology. A far cry from the physical security required to protect VHS tapes.

As with approaching any new technology for the first time, there is new terminology to understand. Training is therefore necessary, and many companies such as 2Mcctv, offer suitable courses to equip installers with the technical and product knowledge they need.

As with approaching analog systems, consider first the requirements of the installation. What am I as the end user wishing to accomplish. Is storage necessary? What would be the purpose of storing images (security, staff management)? What volume of images needs to be recorded and archived from how many cameras? Can the staff be relied upon to manage either an analog system or digital system? And, do the images need to be archived off site or accessed from elsewhere?

Whereas analog is ideal for small, single site, cost conscious installations where deterrence is the primary requirement and staff can be relied upon to keep up with tape management, digital is the preferred solution wherever the recording of high quality images is essential. Connectivity to a network, integration to other systems such as ATMs, and size and complexity of the installation are also determining factors as well as high recording capacity.

In reality, the storage device is only one aspect of a much larger installation. Storage options must consider the whole system and all its complexities before a decision should be made.

Star Wars-Empire at War - Epic Space and Ground Battles

If you are a fan of Real-Time Strategy games, and a Star Wars buff, then Star Wars: Empire at War is the game for you. Created by LucasArts and Petroglyph, Star Wars: Empire at War (further abbreviated as SW:EAW) allows players to fight on the ground and in the space above over forty planets in the Star Wars universe. While the main focus is on tactical control, players also get a grand overview of the galaxy from which you can control and purchase new units and buildings. Overall, SW:EAW is the best RTS of its type.

The game focuses on conflicts between the Empire and Rebel forces just before the fourth movie. Each side has its own units, although both have the same types generally. Both sides also have a campaign, which gives the player missions complete, although you can control what units to purchase and where to attack. SW:EAW's other main element is Galactic Conquest, an open campaign where the player selects which scenario (which sets the number of planets), starting money (called credits), and technology level. Tech levels are also important, unlocking new units and building types. Finally, SW:EAW is rounded off by an instant action mode, also available on multiplayer.

The greatest action and fun to be had is in the space battles. Everything a Star Wars fan could hope for and more can be found in these epic battles. Every ship present in the movies is present, from small fighters like Tie's and X-Wings to capital ships, like Imperial Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari Cruisers, the Rebellion equivalent. At least one side usually has a space station, from which upgrades and units and be purchased (units only in Instant Action), and the Empire can construct the Death Star in Galactic Conquests. Larger ships and stations have hardpoints which can be specifically attacked, so players can take down the most important systems first. Visuals and sound are magnificent and sound "realistic" to Star Wars.

Ground battles also involve many of the same qualities, but seem to be much more constrained. There is still a great variety of units, but the maps seem too small. While space battles allow lots of movement, ground battles can be slow as units traverse the battleground. The attacker must capture reinforcement points to bring in more units, and points around the battlefield can be captured and built into different turrets or support buildings. The AI won't win any awards either, mainly just coming straight at you, but the visuals are still great.

An expansion pack, Forces of Corruption, has been released since SW:EAW's launch, which adds a new faction with all new units and buildings and more planets. I would recommend picking up the dual pack of both games, since the expansion is great. I have also barely touched on the galactic overview part of the campaigns. This game is a great addition to the RTS genre and brings Star Wars into it in a good way. With a great variety and almost unlimited replayability, Star Wars and RTS fans alike should pick up this fantastic title.

Ready For the Switch to Digital?

On February 17, 2009 televisions will no longer be broadcast in analog. Congress has mandated that on this date all television will be broadcast digitally. High definition televisions (HDTV) have been on the market for years. HDTV's are higher end TVs that are able to play this digital signal, for a clearer image and improved sound. Up until now, television has been broadcast simultaneously in analog and digital, because on its own, older televisions can't display the digital transmissions.

There are a few reasons for the digital TV transition. The first being a better quality image and sound. Digital transmissions are much more efficient. Because of this there will be more programming options available with multi-casting, which the digital TV transition will allow. Right now, TV stations can only broadcast 1 channel at a time. Mutli-casting means that TV stations would be able to broadcast more than one channel at a time. Secondly, this transition will free up frequencies used by analog broadcasts. The Federal Communication Commission will then be able to sell these frequencies to the highest bidders. Some of these stations will also be set aside for emergency broadcasting.

What this means for the viewer, is that on February 17, everyone that uses an antenna to view free TV, will no longer be able to do this, without some modification. People that have satellite or cable should be able to continue viewing without trouble. Those viewers that will be affected have a few options. The most obvious option is to buy a new TV. If you have been thinking about upgrading to an HDTV, now would be a good time to do so. Any digital TV that you purchase should be able to receive a digital signal. The second option is to sign up for cable or satellite service. And finally, you can obtain a converter box that will receive the digital signal and translate it into analog for your existing TV.

The government is offering two coupons per household for $40 towards the purchase of these convert boxes through. To sign up for the coupon program, contact the National Telecommunications and Information Administration at 1-888-DTV-2009 or go to www.DTV2009.gov. The converter connects to you TV with audio/visual cables. You will still need your antenna to receive the digital signal.

Digital to analog converters are available at most electronic retailer. The converter connects to you TV with audio/visual cables. You will still need your antenna to receive the digital signal. If you have a VCR that also only picks up analog signals, you will still be able to use it. You simply hook the converter up to the VCR as well. Make sure that you tell you retailer exactly what electronics you use along with your TV. It is also a good idea to know what kind of cables you are able to use on your electronics when you go shopping. This will ensure that you have everything that you need when you are ready to connect the converter box.

Popular Crystals For Men

The power of crystal can never be underestimated. For centuries, crystals have been used in variety of ways, from performing ceremonies for the dead, to the curing of the sick, to the improvement of the living and the health. In every century, in every time period, people learn more and more about the miraculous powers of crystals.

There are many known benefits of wearing crystal, including improvement of sex drive, improvement of tissues and internal organs such as the brain, liver and testicles and of course, it as been used also in various forms of energy therapy tackling a myriad of diseases from drug addiction to nymphomania to erectile dysfunction.

A crystal store or crystal shop would be able to give you a fairly adequate answer when you ask what kind of crystals would be right for your unique needs as an individual. Remember, crystals are for the soul as much as the body, and because of this, you have to be very careful in choosing what kind of crystal to wear, otherwise you might not get maximum benefits.

An amethyst bracelet would be useful if you have had or is still having emotional problems. The amethyst crystal has been known to be the mother of all healing crystals, and provides its wearers with a constant stream of positive energy that penetrates deep into the body and the psyche, proving a wonderful cyclical process of healing.

A garnet pendant on the other hand may be used by men who've had sexual problems in the past. For example, erectile dysfunction and a general lack of libido may be addressed through the use of a garnet pendant.

A jade necklace would be perfect for those who want the negative energies to leave their lives. Jade has been known also to prolong life and to make the life of the wearer or the one who has ingested the crystal more meaningful and fruitful and definitely much more fortunate.

A rose quartz geode can give the person wearing it the necessary push in the right direction- if the person wishes to have more stable relationships that is. Rose quartz has an affinity for the Heart.

A smoky quartz ball is one of the best choices you have if you wish to dispel negative feelings from your psyche. Harmful emotions are never good- why not try wearing one and see how it works out?

A diamond not only looks good but gives the wearer power- because the diamond has been known to be a power stone and protector stone. The diamond is a prescribed stone for businessmen, lawyers and generally successful men who can afford to buy it, because it would improve further their self-confidence and their outlook in life. Diamonds have also been known to prolong the life of those who wear it near the heart.

A moonstone point would be a wonderful choice for individuals who wish to make balance their maleness and femaleness both in the physical world and in the spiritual world.

Photography Contests

Competition always comes with some advantages attached to it. It opens avenues for us to meet other people in our field and is also a sure way by which the quality of products is improved to keep up with the current market standards. They also serve to promote a given good or service. Photography contests are no different from other types of contests that are generally held worldwide.

Photography contests are organized by special institutions and they can also be hosted through the Internet. For you to come o0ut as a qualified photographer it would be good to learn a few tricks that you can do with your digital or classic camera to capture clear and crisp images. This is because no matter how good your camera is, it can never replace you, the photographer.

For beginners who are willing to participate in photography contests, the secret is in investing in a good camera that will help you make some good shots for a beginning. Note that not all cameras are automatized and you should be careful not to choose those that are specifically designed for professionals.

Always maintain your cool during the photography contests and do not try to show off in a manner that is likely to suggest that you are a braggart. Do whatever you have to do in a modest way. Also avoid copying other people's ways of doing things, in fact, be as original and creative as you can be. Combine all these with confidence and you have high chances of excelling.

Video iPod by Apple is Sexy and Sleek

The Apple video iPod is a thin, sleek package that now combines three of the average American's favorite things: movies, music, and television. Not just satisfied with dominating the MP3 player market, the Apple iPod got a video upgrade and even higher storage capacity. When the first generation of iPods was produced, people were wowed by it even with the simple LCD display. There was nothing else like it as the time, and with its feature-filled video iPod, Apple is still a winner. Although other companies are still trying to dethrone Apple from the top of the MP3 player heap, it will be difficult to top them. Microsoft has recently introduced the Zune, its Apple iPod killer with video, photo, and music capabilities. However, the Microsoft Zune doesn't exactly seem to have any features that give it a real edge over Apple's video iPod. If it has one unique feature going for it, it is the fact that the Zune allows the sharing of music files directly between Zune users. The Zune also accepts several different formats for music files, which makes things easier if you get your music from different sources.

It certainly beats being stuck with files that can only be played on one MP3 player. For example, Apple's AAC format music files will only work on your computer or an iPod. That minor quibble aside, the latest video iPods by Apple are thin and light (weighing only 5.5 ounces) with a good quality QVGA screen for your video-viewing pleasure.

You've come a Long Way, iPod

No other MP3 player comes close to it in terms of style, although there are MP3 players with extra features like the Zune. The video iPod comes in a 30GB model and an 80GB model. The 30GB model can hold up to 40 hours of video, while the 80GB can hold a whopping 100 hours of video. In terms of songs, that means you can load up to 7500 songs on a 30GB video iPod or 20,000 on your 80GB model. A 30GB video iPod retails for only $249.00 at Apple's online store, and the 80GB version is only $349.00 (plus you can get free engraving if you buy it diectly fromthe store). Either device would be a great deal for music lovers, but for only a hundred dollars extra you get almost triple the capacity of the basic model. You should consider saving up for that 80GB model if you're a fan of the Apple video iPod.

The Pitfalls of Going Cheap on Replacement Batteries

Lost or damaged the battery to your fancy and costly new camcorder, digital camera or cordless phone? Be extremely wary when going online to find a replacement.

Many online providers - and there are MANY - offer unbelievable prices compared to factory original replacements. They are able to do so by offering non-branded or their own in-house brand of replacement camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries. Their advertisements sound almost too good to be true, especially after being told by your local electronics store how much a factory original replacement will cost. But these online deals usually are too good to be true - for what you save in money, you will pay for in quality.

These providers make all the usual promises of quality and functionality, but at the end of the day, they are resellers and marketers, not hardware manufacturers. As such, their products tend to be on the low end of the quality scale as they look to increase profit margins.

This is accomplished by creating camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries that look, feel and connect just like the factory originals. The thing is, however, that most such batteries today are lithium-ion batteries, which can be made using a variety of different chemical compounds.

But not all chemical compounds are created equal, and some, while being much cheaper to acquire, result in much diminished battery life, lower energy density and longer charging times. It is a chemistry that experts say must be treated with care and respect for optimal results. You want someone who not only really knows what they are doing, but who also actually cares about getting it right.

In other words, you get what you pay for when shopping at these outlets.

When it comes to camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries, it is recommended to buy only branded products. That is not to say you have to buy the exact brand as your camcorder, digital camera or cordless phone. Doing that often costs up to 70 percent more. It is possible to buy a non-name brand product, but you do still want to make sure there is a brand behind the product.

There are many companies represented online that specialize in producing replacement camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries, and their products often rival the quality of the factory original batteries.

These companies are somewhere between the original manufacturer and the peddlers of cheap wares described above. In price, they are only slightly more expensive than the non-branded resellers, but in quality they tend toward the high end of the scale by focusing solely on producing top-notch camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries.

So buying something other than the exact brand of your camcorder, digital camera or cordless phone is not the issue. You can go cheap, just be careful of the cheapest option. A good rule of thumb is that typically the most expensive of the cheap options is going to provide the best quality.

Even so, take some time to do a bit of online research and make sure the product you are purchasing comes from a reputable brand that specializes in producing replacement camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries and cordless phone batteries. There is nothing more frustrating than finally receiving your replacement battery only to find that it doesn't work or stops working after minimal use.

GMK Batteries offer replacement camcorder batteries from Hahnel and Uniross. Whether it's a Sony, JVC, Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic or any other make, we can offer standard and extended cordless phone batteries with a cross reference of over 20,000 battery combinations, we also sell camera batteries.

Gaming on the Go - The Nintendo DS Vs The Sony PSP

It is sleek, it is thin, and it took the US by storm in 2004. At issue, of course, is the dual screen, portable original style Nintendo DS. Followed in 2006 with the next generation of even thinner and sleeker looking technology, the Nintendo DS Lite, consumers eagerly gobbled up the lite version, but did not forsake the original one either.

In stark contrast to the Game Boy mimicry of the Nintendo DS stands Sony's PlayStation Portable, the PSP. It hit the American market in 2005, and even as the Nintendo DS had a head start and already established brand name recognition, PSP garnered a small market share. It failed to really take off until Sony releases the PSP Slim and Lite in 2007, which sent its sales through the roof worldwide - albeit for a limited period of time.

This of course begs the question any discerning consumer must ask: which system is better? Right on the heels of this line of questioning must be the inquiry over which system is most likely to be more appropriate for the 10 and under age group. After all, handheld gaming devices are now the after school activity of choice for youngsters facing lengthy commutes, or prolonged grocery shopping trips with mom.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Just the Specs

Nintendo DS operates on a 67 MHz platform that accepts GBA cartridges and DS game cards. Game Boy owners rejoice! The system features four MB in storage and connects to Wi-Fi, and WLAN. The DS Lite is cosmetically enhanced and offers a few more bells and whistles, such as an extension of the battery life and a larger stylus, but the bottom line technology is pretty much the same.

The DS features two screens with a 256 x 192 pixel resolution, which is formidable for a handheld device. A rechargeable battery enables game play on the go, and fully charged batteries support about 10 hours of play, although this number is affected by the sound volume, the use of one or both screen, and even wireless activities.

Sony PSP operates on MIPS technology and plays Sony specific universal media discs, making this a premier mode of on the go entertainment system. Storage requires the use of memory sticks. Users may connect their PSP to Wi-Fi, USB, and also IrDA, which gave some false hopes as to the future of the gadget.

Somewhat of a dud when compared to the DS, the PSP Slim and Lite has added significant upgrades, namely a doubled internal memory, which makes it a real player in the handheld gaming market. On the other hand, the 480 x 272 pixel resolution is nothing to scoff at. The most commonly expressed complaint is the somewhat limited battery life that - fully charged - extends only to about five hours of game play or video replay, and about 10 hours of strictly audio replay.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Game Libraries and Associated Options

DS offers the user choices. There is of course the ability to play DS and Game Boy Advance games; yet there is also the option to use PictoChat and even utilize DS Download Play.

Secondary functions of the DS are an alarm clock and an input mode that remembers some personal preferences with respect to choice and name.

PSP plays UMD discs and therefore doubles as a mini movie theater. In addition to playing games or watching movies, the user may choose to display a photo slide show, listen to music, and of course download upgrades. Initially the slow internal memory frustrated gamers who had to wait for games to load or for the system to switch between tasks, but since this has been corrected it is no longer a valid problem.

Games for the PSP are a mix of Sony's who's who, and a compilation of lesser known characters: there are "2 Xtreme," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," "World Series Poker," "NHL," "NBA," "FIFA," "Crash Bandicoot," and of course "Grand Theft Auto."

DS offers backward compatibility with Game Boy Advance, thereby entering the market with a sizeable game library already intact. Currently boasting about 600 titles, gamers may find some similarities with PSP but also a lot of oldies but goodies. There are "FIFA," "Barnyard Blast," "Call of Duty," a soon to be released "Crash Bandicoot," and of course the ever popular "Mario."

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Consumer Appeal

Even as the demographics are not etched in stone, it is quite apparent that both handheld game consoles are targeting different audiences that overlap only slightly. In a step that has baffled industry insiders, the rumors surrounding the futures of both devices outline an embrace of the divide, rather than an attempt to bridge the gap and woo away members of the other demographic.

Starting out at $149.99 and later dropping to $129.99, the Nintendo DS is reasonably priced, and consumers who - worldwide -- bought more than 80 million of these portable game consoles agreed. The vast numbers of games, the backward compatibility with Game Boy, and of course the availability of kiddie and teen favorites, such as "Mario" and "Crash Bandicoot," make this a favorite for parents.

This unit has a prolonged useful life in that it may grow with the interests of an elementary school kid and continue on being used when she is in her teens, or until the next unit model comes out. There are several games that are waiting for release, and the homebrew underground has gone wild in creating cards that allow for the playing of movies and other software.

The Sony PSP originally made a rather impressive splash but, once the novelty wore off, sales were sluggish when compared to the DS. Retailing at $169.99, it is pricier than the Nintendo system, and market watchers estimate that worldwide about 26 million units have been sold thus far. Sony is banking on promises that would add GPS capabilities to its units as upping the sales, but the critics are still unsure.

Since many of the PSP games are aimed at the teen and adult market, this is not the kind of gadget parents would buy for the younger set. In addition, the added online connectivity makes this the premier system for the independent young adult who is not under too much parental supervision.

Parents have come to see the DS as the next logical step of the Game Boy system, while teens are viewing the PSP as the natural extension of the PS3. This puts both systems before slightly different demographics, and it is apparent that for the parent driven market share, the DS is the system of choice, while the teen market is willing to do the extra chores and spend the birthday money to afford the PSP.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: What Does the Future Hold?

It is unlikely that the PSP is going to transcend its target audience and it is evident that Sony is not even trying to broaden the handheld console's appeal. Instead, it is seeking to cement consumer loyalty by introducing a PSP 3000, differentiated from the PSP and Portable Slim and Lite by the moniker PSP Brite.

Sony concentrated on the quality of its LCD screen and is timing the release of the PSP Brite to coincide with the pre holiday sales rush in October of 2008. The cost is $169.99 for the bare bones model, which will not be released until after the bundle version for $199.99 makes its debut.

True to form, the bundle is paired with the movie "National Treasure 2," platform game "Ratchet & Clank," which earned a debatable ESRB E10+ rating, a single player puzzle game download coupon, and a memory stick. The alternate bundle substitutes the "Everyday Shooter" game which is considered a somewhat more difficult shoot 'em up game.

Nintendo is unlikely to improve upon its DS Lite in the very near future, and accordingly original style DS owners breathe a sigh of relief that there is no immediate upgrade to the console in sight. In its place there is a good chance that yet another special version will be released. Consumers may remember that the latest such release took place in June of 2008 when the "Guitar Hero: On Tour" special edition DS hit store shelves at a cost of $179.99.

Although there is no immediately verifiable buzz on the gaming forums, there are some rumors that another special edition may coincide with the planned PSP Brite release, but thus far the rumors are unsubstantiated.

What is in Your Wardrobe? A Woman's Guide to Having a Wearable Wardrobe

Nothing to Wear? Does your heart sink when you open your wardrobe? Where is that hot pink Ungaro dress? In order to get the most out of your wardrobe the first step is to know what is in it. Amongst the unworn and the unloved will be great clothes if only you could find them.

Declutter

In the UK we wear only 20% of what we buy. This is a staggering waste of money and means that we can't find the great LBD when we need it. Wardrobes need tough love, throw out anything you have never worn or that does not fit or suit you. If you can't face this alone use a Personal Stylist to help you.

Sort by Category.

Long dresses, short dresses, skirts, trousers etc. Then sort by colour. This makes life easy rather than scrabbling through random items we can then find the pencil skirt in one minute. Get rid of anything that is not in your colour palette. Your clothes should all co-ordinate with each other so finding tops to go with skirts becomes simplicity itself.

Discard the unfashionable.

Trends change. The quickest way to update your wardrobe is to buy new shoes. Dated shoes and clothes will date you so bin them. If you keep things hoping that they come back into fashion they may then not be age appropriate.

Why are you keeping clothes you don't like?

When I do Wardrobe Management so many women have clothes that they do not even like in their wardrobes. The usual reason for keeping them is because they were expensive or a statement designer piece. Sell them, and make a vow to only buy clothes that you love. Clothes that make your heart sing!

Does it Fit You?

"This is for when I lose weight." or " I might get pregnant again." Have a wardrobe of clothes that you can wear now. If you lose a lot of weight studies show that one of the ways to keep it off is to get rid of your old wardrobe. This is a massive financial and motivational incentive.

What is your lifestyle?

Many women have lots of work clothes but few casual clothes and vice versa. Think about the percentage of clothes you have and it will show you where you are lack items. Perhaps you have only trouser suits for work. One of my clients had only pin striped suits. There are many other styles to choose that would create a more varied wardrobe.

Does the style suit me?

Have a Style Consult. If you keep buying clothes that you never wear probably they do not suit your colouring or body shape. The advice you receive will save you money in the long term as you can wear all of your wardrobe.

Affordable Residential Solar Power

With the cost of electricity continually rising, many people are looking for ways to reduce their power bill. Of course, you can always cut back on usage - lower wattage light bulbs, lowering the thermostat in the Winter and raising the thermostat in the Summer are just some of the ways.

Another alternative is the use of renewable energy such as solar power. Solar power is clean, free and requires a minimum of maintenance. In addition, it has been shown that solar power significantly reduces your power bill by as much as 50% to 80% or even eliminate it altogether.

So what is solar power? How does it lower my power bill? How much does it cost?

A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell (PV), is a device that converts light into direct current using the photoelectric effect. For residential use, the direct current is then converted to alternating current and fed into your home's electrical system. Power companies have a meter that measures the amount of electricity generated by the solar system. The cost of this electricity is calculated and deducted from your power bill.

Commercially available solar systems start at around $2,000 and go to around $40,000. Many people don't have this kind of money laying around. Besides, at these levels it can take years to break even on your investment. An alternative is to build your own solar panels.

Do it yourself solar energy has become very popular recently. Step-by-step, fully illustrated guides are available to show you exactly how to build your own solar panels for under $200! Such a project may sound complicated but it is actually very easy. You can even make it a family affair getting the kids involved.

In summary, you can drastically reduce your power bill by using solar energy. And, it is affordable when you do it yourself. Recovering your investment will take months instead of years.

Is Your Old Digital Camera Still Doing the Job?

The speed of change in the digital cameras area is fast and new models show up on a regular basis. Yes, you might feel inclined to buy the latest gadgets that are launched, play with the latest options and then show off the photos you just took, but do you actually need the latest digital camera or will the current one work for a while longer.

1. Upgrade

If you already own a compact digital camera and you already master it, you might want to upgrade and get a DSLR. A DSLR will allow you to take your photos to a whole new level, both in quality and level of detail. DSLR's also let you change their lenses. For example you can use a wide lens to catch more of a landscape in a photo, or you can use a telephoto lens to take a photo of some lions that are resting.

You can take a photo and save it in RAW format, which you can modify later as you wish. You can also use the flash in different ways, so that people don't show up white in the photos. A DSLR allows you to do a lot more things than a compact will.

2. Budget

The budget is probably the most important factor in buying a new camera.

Each market segment gets new digital cameras from manufacturers. If you know how many digital cameras are launched each year, you already know that you can't have all of them.

Basically, when you buy a new camera, you lose the value of the old one since you're not using it.

3. Understand the technology behind digital cameras

When you want to buy a digital camera you need to know what technologies and features come together with it. What does the new camera have compared with the one you have now?

If the only reason behind the new purchase is getting a few extra megapixels, then you're a bit misguided.

One piece of information you might need is if the image sensor was increased at the same time as the number of megapixels. If the image sensor remains the same and the number of megapixels increases, there is a good chance you will get a photo that is noised. The bigger the sensor, the better quality you will get from those extra megapixels.

When you decide that you want a new digital camera, do some research first and see if you really need the extras that come with it.

Authentic Mexican Talavera Pottery

First of all, authentic Mexican talavera pottery will always bear the initials or name of the artist who created it and the place of production. The place of production leads us to a second determining factor of authentic talavera. Only talavera produced in the Talavera Zone in the state of Puebla, Mexico is considered authentic. Regions included in the zone are Cholula, Tecali, Puebla and Atlixco all of which are in the state of Puebla, Mexico. To put it into an easier perspective, you can only get authentic talavera from the state of Puebla, Mexico, just as you can only get authentic champagne from Champagne, France.

The materials used in the production of talavera pottery are also determining factors of its authenticity. Authentic talavera pottery will always be made from the clays of the state of Puebla, Mexico. If any other clay is used, then the talavera is not considered authentic. Also, only natural mineral pigments can be used to intricately adorn authentic talavera. If commercial paints are used, the talavera is considered to be an imitation.

When forming an authentic piece of talavera, the clay must be turned on a potter's wheel, molded by hand, or hand-pressed into a mold. Should the clay mixture be poured into molds, the talavera would be considered an imitation.

Due to the firing process and the hand-painted designs, authentic Mexican talavera pottery will bear designs with slightly raised borders. If the designs are flat to the surface it is likely that the talavera has been machine produced. Another indication to machine produced talavera, is a bright white background free of crazing. The background of authentic talavera will be a creamy white color, show crazing, and appear somewhat porous.

Talavera will not look perfect or made by a machine. Each piece will be unique making it a beautiful work of art for you to enjoy in your home!

We hope we have helped you understand the differences between authentic Mexican talavera and imitation talavera. At La Casa Mexicana.us we offer high-quality lead-free talavera made in the studio of Tomas Huerta in Puebla, Mexico.

Closeout Luggage Sets - Where to Find Them, How to Buy Them

It never ceases to amaze me how much cash stays in my pocket when I purchase closeout luggage sets; the deals are out, provided you know where to look. As someone who preaches frugality, I decided to put together the best places and times to find closeout sales. Here's my list in no particular order:

Ebags.com. This is a serious shopping site. You can browse by cost, brand name, or even the material you want. In addition, they also have a great section on closeout luggage, with quality suitcases going for just under one hundred dollars.

Shop during the off season. Studies have shown that the average price of luggage dips around May and June. Also, major holidays such as Christmas and the Fourth of July can bring in huge savings.

The proper way to judge quality. The first place to start when assessing quality is the zipper; they should have wide teeth and slide easily. If they don't now, imagine how bad they'll be next year. However, all zippers eventually do catch, and you should take care not to pull on them. Simply apply soap and water (or lubricant), wait a minute or two, and then slide the zipper open. The material itself should be smooth and firm, and the frame should be sturdy, with no sags in the middle. Eventually the material will stretch, so it's advisable to find one that is tight to begin with.

Closeout luggage sets are a great way to secure quality luggage well below retail value.

In conclusion, you can learn more about closeout luggage sets at http://www.travel-smarts.com

The Ins & Outs of DSLR Cameras

It can be hard choosing a DSLR camera that will fit all your needs, in whatever occasion. Think about what types of photographs you will take in most cases and select the DSLR camera based on what your needs will be. If you know the type of photography that you'll be concentrating on, choosing the right camera for you will be much easier.

For example, concentrating on taking photos of the nature means that you should take into consideration digital SLR cameras that come with a bigger optical zoom and possibly combining the camera with a scope. This will insure that you can take the best photos when it comes to nature, even if the subject is at a longer range.

If your pleasure is doing sport photography, then you should concentrate on a digital SLR that comes with a fast shutter speed, good focal length and a motor drive that is speedy. You need speed if you want to be able to take fast photos. In sports, speed is very important, since otherwise you risk missing the moment by the time you take that photo.

If you prefer going on trips and taking photos of architecture, you should buy a digital camera that has lenses as wide as possible, so you can avoid the keystone effect and provide you with some extra space near the building you're photographing. This effect will make the photo appear like the building is going to fall. Some digital SLR cameras will have extra options, like shift or tilt control lenses that will fix this issue.

The case is different if you're looking to do underwater photography. In this case you will need some obvious choices: camera housing that works underwater and digital SLR cameras that are waterproof. In some cases, the price of a camera that works underwater will be smaller than a normal digital camera. The downside is that underwater digital cameras will have a smaller resolution. While you can save more photos if the quality is lower, it also means that you can't zoom in or do as many things with those photos.

Finally, take into consideration your own demands from a digital SLR camera. Pick the model that will do everything you need from it and purchase it.

Getting the perfect DSLR camera, is never an easy thing, due to the constantly changing technology. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the camera with all the features important to you

Plan B Skateboards

Plan B Skateboards is one of the worlds most popular brands of skateboards. The company is committed to producing high quality boards with some amazing graphics and designs. Plan B also has quite a history about when it was started and how it has recently made a come back. It also has many very popular pro skaters that ride for the team like Ryan Sheckler and Danny Way, who is currently one of the owners.

Plan B skateboards are one of the most popular brands of skateboards for a reason. They make their decks out of the best wood in order to create a quality product. Plan B not only sells decks but they sell wheels, clothing and more. Thought is put into every board that is designed and their board graphics are some of the best in the industry.

Plan B was started in 1991 by Mike Ternasky. The company was made of many of the best pro skaters of the time and gained momentum as a great company very quickly, the Plan B team was known as one of the most influential skate teams of the early nineties. That moment was carried all the way through 1994 until Ternasky was tragically killed in a car accident. The news greatly affected all of the Plan B team and even through the best efforts of Danny Way and Colin McKay, who took over ownership, to keep Plan B together, Plan B soon disappeared from the scene. The connection of Mike Ternasky's tragedy to the name Plan B was too great to continue the company. Plan B disappeared from the scene for 10 years, then in 2005 Danny Way and Colin Mckay started the company back up by again building it with the industries top skaters. Plan B is once again near the top of the best skateboarding brands and best skateboarding teams. Their pro riders are Danny Way, Colin Mckay, PJ Ladd, Ryan Gallant, Brian Wenning, Pat Duffy, Paul Rodriguez, Jereme Rodgers and Ryan Sheckler.

In this years 2008 X Games Danny way put on one of the most spectacular performances of all time in the big air competition. On Way's second attempt he crashed his feet and shins into the coping on the way down in brutal fashion. No one thought he would be able to continue but in true Danny Way fashion he stood up and walked off the ramp. Not only that, he got back up on top of the ramp to finish out his last 3 big air attempts. Reports later concluded that Danny had broken his foot on that 2nd attempt, but then went on to land attempts 3 and 5 with a broken foot. Danny ended up walking away with the silver medal. Ryan Sheckler took home the gold medal in the street skate competition in the same x games.

As a company, Plan B has been through many changes, some very bad and some very good. Now Plan B Skateboards is one of the worlds greatest skateboard companies and greatest skateboarding teams.

Plan B Skateboards are an incredible skateboard company with an amazing history. They are personally my favorite brand, but there are loads of other awesome skateboards with great designs and strong companies.
